THE Metropolitan Manila Development Authority opened a smoking cessation
clinic to help those who have difficulty quitting the habit.
MMDA
general manager Corazon Jimenez said the clinic located at the agency’s
main office in Orense, Makati, is offering medical and psychological
support to those who want to stop smoking.
Jimenez clarified they don’t force anyone who enters the clinic to quit smoking saying the decision still lies on the person.
“We just give advice or counseling on how to quit smoking,” she said.
The
MMDA is in high spirit because despite an injunction issued last year
by a Mandaluyong court stopping the agency from apprehending smokers in
areas not covered by the Tobacco Regulations Act, the local government
units moved to push the anti-smoking campaign in their respective
localities.
